Coming from a family background of artists and musicians, Micah Baldwin realized that it was the lens of a camera that was to be her choice of medium to help set her apart and establish her own creative mark.

With family and friends often the subjects of her earlier studies, she is always on the hunt for locations of backgrounds to compliment the union. Her training in art helped transpose the important elements of natural design and composition into her images.

Her work frequently portrays a romanticized view of women in white that could have been summoned from the lonesome, undated surroundings of Appalachia on down to her enchanted haunts along the southern Gulf Coast. She incorporates the innocence of children, simple wonders of nature, the graceful hands of dancers and jugglers, neglected and forgotten landmarks, portraits of ladies averting a glance and of young men staring the camera square in the eye. Her sense of humor can sometimes be found lingering in the images and her subjects always seem to convey a sense of calmness while in the presence of her camera.

Comfortable in a world of black and white, she has a subtle skill to cut through the confusion of color helping to let us focus on the intensity or purity of her subject. However when addressing color, you can tell that when it is there, it is definitely there for a reason to be reckoned with.

Admired is her ability to capture and encapsulate those split second images of sweetness and sensuality that somehow identify the unique gift blessed upon those who are the artists, while the rest of us are just here to take the common garden variety snapshot.

Micah acknowledges and appreciates the many brilliant and ground-breaking women who have leveled and continue to expand the ever-creative playing field in this young and powerful new art form of photography.
